Prehistoric Creatures Day – Cocktail of the Night

Prehistoric Creatures Day is every Friday the 13th. You’re supposed to take your prehistoric creatures – dinosaurs, mammoths, and other very very extinct things – to dinner. I, uh, didn’t. Instead, I did a cocktail and dessert party for creatures that assured me counted.

Dragons! And panda bears! And the tongue-a-saurus from Thundercats!

As you can see, the party was well attended. From the back corner clockwise around: Sparkle the dragon, Theodore, Pandy, Arthur (the little dragon in front), Hubert, George, Inyth (the ice dragon), Isseth (the earth/ice dragon), Paul, Tongue, Zul the Destroyer, Stitl the Ultra-Destroyer.

I know, I know, not really the same thing. But I don’t argue with things capable of killing me.

So what was everyone drinking? Pandy and Theodore (those are the panda bears) are having tea. I offered alternatives and, well it went like this:

Me: Tea? Just tea?
Theodore: That’s right, old sport. Unless you have something more Chinese.
Me: … I’ve got sake. And soju. And shochu.
Pandy: That’s Japanese, Korean, and Japanese.
Me: I’ve got tea-flavored vodka.
Theodore: That’s quite alright, sport. We are from China. We should drink tea.
Me: … Pandy was born in Ohio, and you sound like Theodore Roosevelt. I’m not sure how China even enters into this.
Pandy: Can I get some milk in this?
Theodore: Yes, and sugar too.
Me: *facepalm*

So, on to the cocktails. I decided to make two.

The first is a Zipperhead.

1 ounce vodka
1 ounce Chambord
1 ounce lemon-lime soda

Layer in an ice-filled Rocks glass. Sip through a straw.

I’ll admit I only made this because I want to try making a layered drink. I thought I did badly, but from googling pictures it looks like I didn’t do too bad.

What did my guests think of it?

They quite liked it!

What’s it taste like? Raspberry lemon-lime soda. So, if that sounds appealing you might like it. I didn’t. 2/10 (4/10 from Zul and 6/10 from Stitl.)

The second drink was an Attaboy.

2 ounces gin
2 ounce sweet vermouth
1/4 ounce grenadine

Pour into a mixing glass two-thirds full of ice cubes. Stir well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

I goofed, actually, and poured straight into a glass. And, obviously, cocktail glasses would be too big so I used my cordial glasses.

What did they think of it?

Well, Isseth (that’s the brown one) liked it a lot. The armored dragons, George and Paul, thought it was good. Inyth (the ice dragon) thought it was too spicy and she’d melt! Isseth finished it for her. My rating: 4/10

Sorry, no report on how fast these will get you drunk. Apparently, dragons don’t get drunk.

But that’s not all!

We had popcorn while watching music videos.

What were we watching?

Stayin’ Alive.
Of course.

Then we roasted marshmellows! And made s’mores!

With these. It’s fabulous.

Yay!
